Enamelled gold, ruby and natural pearl horse and dog pendant
Probably Majorcan, circa 1700

The motif of a horse with a dog on it's back is seen occasionally in Spanish/Portuguese jewellery, though it's meaning has been lost to time. See Yvonne Hackenbrock's 'Renaissance Jewellery' for another example.
